Certain civilian employees who work on military bases are covered under the Non-Appropriated Funds Instrumentalities Act if they are injured or killed during the course of their work. These Non-Appropriated Funds (AAFES) Employees are protected by this extension of the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act. AAFES Employees include civilian employees of military exchanges and other employees working for the comfort, support, and mental and physical improvement of members of the armed forces.
